Not quite. This experience is designed for adults with at least an A2 level in French. If you’re a complete beginner, you might find it frustrating, as you wouldn’t be able to fully enjoy the activities or conversations. The goal of this French immersion in Lille is to help lower-intermediate to intermediate learners unlock their spoken French in a natural way, with minimal use of English. Unless absolutely necessary, I speak French throughout the stay — that’s the whole point of immersion
Absolutely! Many French teachers join this type of program to brush up on their language, reconnect with French culture, and gain fresh insights into immersive teaching. It’s a chance to experience the learner’s perspective and enjoy authentic daily life in France
You’ll speak and hear French throughout the day, from morning to night. Between the private lessons, shared meals, cultural outings and casual conversations, you can expect to be immersed in French for around ten hours a day. I translate as little as possible, to preserve the authenticity of the experience. That said, the pace always adapts to your energy, confidence and comfort — this is a premium, human-centered program, not a boot camp
You’ll stay in our home — a spacious three-bedroom apartment I share with my wife in Lille. You’ll have your own private room with a sink and desk, and we share the rest of the apartment. This is not a hotel experience; it’s an immersive stay in a real French home. You’ll have some free time to explore the city independently, and I’ll always be nearby and available by phone or in person if you need anything. You’ll experience French daily life from the inside, while maintaining privacy and autonomy
There’s no long checklist. I’ll provide a welcome pack that includes a personalized notebook, pencils, and books about Lille and the region. Just bring your usual travel essentials, your curiosity, your energy, and your joy for learning. Comfortable shoes are always a good idea, and if you’re coming from outside Europe, don’t forget a power adapter — otherwise, everything you need is here
Yes, you can — but it’s important to know that coming with someone else changes the nature of the immersion. If your partner doesn’t speak French, the experience will be less linguistically intensive, since French won’t be the only language spoken. Your companion can join the meals and outings, and there’s an extra fee depending on whether they take lessons or not. I recommend coming solo for maximum impact, unless your companion has a similar level of French and the same immersion goals
Yes, absolutely. Most guests arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport and take the high-speed train directly to Lille, which takes just about an hour. I’ll meet you at the station and take you back to the apartment to begin your stay. Like any city, Lille has areas where it’s best to stay alert and take basic precautions, especially for pickpockets, but overall it’s a welcoming and walkable city. I’ve lived here for seven years and have never felt unsafe
