Frequently Asked Questions – French immersion in France
Planning your French immersion in Lille? Here are the most common questions people ask about accommodation, lessons, meals, travel, and how this unique experience works. If you’re still unsure, feel free to reach out — I’m here to help!

Yes — breakfast and dinner are always included. Some weekday lunches may be taken independently to allow flexibility and to enjoy Lille’s affordable lunch menus. I’ll happily recommend good spots. Dinners are homemade at the apartment using fresh, mostly local ingredients, and often include classic French dishes. We celebrate your arrival and farewell with special apéro-dinners, and of course, desserts and coffee play a central role in the experience. Non-alcoholic options are always available
Yes, I adapt to most dietary needs and preferences — such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or lactose intolerance. However, fully vegan diets can be challenging to accommodate in France. Please let me know in advance if you have any allergies or foods you dislike, so I can plan accordingly and ensure a comfortable experience
A typical day starts with breakfast around 8:00 a.m., followed by three hours of private lessons (usually from 9:00 to 12:00) — either at home or in a nearby park if the weather is nice. The afternoons are for cultural discovery: museums, nature walks, local markets, excursions to nearby towns. You’ll also have some free afternoons to explore independently or relax, allowing you to practice your French in real-life situations
We begin with a Zoom call to assess your level and discuss your goals. This also helps us get to know each other before the immersion begins. The course is entirely tailored to your needs, focusing on real-life, practical French. I use a mix of conversation, grammar, printed PDFs, vocabulary-building tools, and real-world materials like menus and shopping lists — everything designed to boost your confidence and fluency
Absolutely! French is spoken throughout the entire day — during meals, activities, and even casual chats. While I avoid correcting you outside of lesson time (so that you stay immersed), I’m always here to help you express yourself if you’re stuck. It’s all part of the natural, immersive learning experience
Each immersion includes a carefully curated mix of cultural outings: walking tours of the historic Vieux-Lille, visits to the Palais des Beaux-Arts or La Piscine in Roubaix, and day trips to towns like Arras, Cassel, and Saint-Omer. Depending on the season, we may also explore local markets, exhibitions, or brocantes. Some activities are guided, while others allow time to explore independently — always at your pace
Yes, I provide a list of activity suggestions grouped by theme — and you can choose what interests you most. Think of it like a cultural “menu.” The goal is to personalize your stay while giving you access to unique, local experiences you won’t find in guidebooks
The apartment is located in Roubaix, a quiet neighborhood just 20 minutes by direct tram from the center of Lille. You simply board tram line R at Lille Flandres station and get off at Jean Moulin. I accompany you for most outings unless you’ve chosen some free time to explore on your own
Yes. You’ll have fast, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the apartment, as well as a private bedroom with a desk and a washbasin. You can also relax in the shared living room, which is cozy and quiet — perfect for unwinding after a day of learning and exploring
Your safety is my priority. If needed, I can take you to the nearest pharmacy or hospital. I always recommend that you arrange travel insurance before coming to France, to cover any unexpected medical costs. I also keep basic medication on hand for minor issues
A deposit is required to confirm your booking and is non-refundable. If you cancel for a valid, documented reason, the remaining balance will not be charged. If you wish to reschedule, you may do so at least one month in advance — subject to my availability
Yes! I can help you book your train ticket from Paris to Lille if needed. I also send you a detailed travel guide with instructions, transport tips, maps, and contact details to make your arrival stress-free. Once you arrive, I’ll meet you at the station and guide you to the apartment
Absolutely. My motto is: there’s no age limit to learning. Many of my students are over 60. The pace of the immersion is always adapted to your energy and comfort. I truly enjoy hosting seniors and listening to their life stories — it makes the experience even richer
Immersions are available from March to September, with a maximum of two guests per session to ensure a premium and personal experience. I recommend coming in June or September, when the weather is pleasant and flights are usually more affordable
